Bradford on Avon – our home town
At Lerica we know we’re fortunate to be based in the picturesque town of Bradford on Avon in the county of Wiltshire. Known for its historic charm and scenic beauty we thought we’d share some of what we appreciate about the town, plus our favourite things to do.
Explore the town centre – it’s filled with quaint streets, old buildings and charming shops. Dating back to Roman times you’ll find plenty of historic architecture to admire with beautiful stone cottages and medieval structures
With a bustling Market every Thursday, you’ll find great local produce, crafts and artisan goods
The town is situated along the River Avon making it a tranquil place to walk, cycle or enjoy a boat ride
Visit the Saxon Church of St Laurence – it dates back to the 7th century and features Norman and Saxon architecture. It’s a must see for those who like their history
Tithe Barn is well worth a visit – it’s a 14th century building that belonged to a medieval farmstead. It’s one of the finest examples of its kind in the country
The Kennet and Avon Canal runs through Bradford on Avon, and a walk along its towpath is a lovely way to spend time watching the canal boats go by with picturesque locks and bridges
Bradford on Avon Museum provides a great overview of the town’s history and is a good place to learn more about its past. Located in a historic building it often has interesting exhibitions
There’s the iconic Town Bridge which became the town’s Lock Up in the 17th century. Every September there are special Heritage Open Days when the Lock Up is open to the public and you can see what life ‘Under the fish and over the water’ was like, as the local phrase goes!

Westwood Manor is a short drive from the town. A National Trust property, the manor house and gardens are well-preserved and you can gain a glimpse into Tudor and Jacobean life
There are several walking and hiking trails in the area including routes along the Cotswold Way
The village of Avoncliff is nearby via a short walk or drive and has beautiful views of the Avon River and the aqueduct that carries the canal over the river
There’s a thriving arts and culture scene with theatres, galleries and cultural events that showcase local talent
Bradford on Avon Arts Festival - if you’re in town during the arts festival, you’ll be able to enjoy theatre, music and art events taking place across the town
The countryside around is ideal for cycling and bikes can be rented to explore the scenic lanes and trails in the area
Food and Dining – last but not least! There are many cosy tearooms, pubs and restaurants, all serving a wide range of traditional British food, local specialities and international dishes too.
