Getting organised for the new tax year: Key personal tax considerations
As we step into a new tax year, it’s the perfect time to get ahead of your personal tax obligations and ensure everything is in order. Taking a proactive approach can help you avoid last-minute stress, unexpected tax bills, and even potential penalties. Here are some key areas to consider for the upcoming tax year.
1. Employees & Directors: Check your tax code
Have you received a new tax code from HMRC recently? Tax codes can change throughout the year, especially following the submission of a tax return. However, HMRC doesn’t always notify us of these changes, which means errors can go unnoticed. If your tax code is incorrect, you could end up overpaying or underpaying tax.
What to do:
Check your latest payslip or any recent HMRC notification
Send us a copy so we can verify it and ensure you are being taxed correctly
2. Payment on account: Due 31 July 2025
If you make payments on account towards your tax bill, the next deadline is 31 July 2025. But before you pay, consider whether your income has changed. If your income has decreased, you may be able to reduce your payment on account.
How we can help:
Send us your tax return information by the end of June 2025
We will prepare your tax return early to check if your payment on account is accurate or can be adjusted
Early preparation also ensures you have plenty of time to save for your January 2026 tax bill, avoiding late payment interest and unnecessary stress
3. 2024/25 tax returns: Send your information early
We will soon be contacting you for information to prepare tax returns for the year ending 5 April 2025. It’s important to send us your details as soon as possible to avoid delays.
We prepare tax returns in the order they are received. From October to January, we receive a high volume of information, meaning later submissions could face longer processing times.
Please beat the rush by:
Collecting your tax documents early
Sending us your information as soon as it’s available
Avoiding last-minute submissions that can lead to unnecessary stress and tight deadlines
Get Ahead and Stay on Top of Your Taxes
The earlier you get organised, the more control you have over your tax planning and payments. By acting now, you can ensure a smooth, stress-free tax season.
